This is my entry for the Nemoralia contest hosted by Peace of Art [link] and Aegean-Prince [link]
I based my entry on the following sentence found in Kats theme description of the contest: "In addition, offerings of garlic are made to the Goddess of the Dark Moon."
Hecate, Goddess of the Dark Moon, prepares for the Nemoralia procession. In one hand she holds a candle to light her way; in the other hand are two bulbs of garlic tied to a black ribbon symbolic of the garlic offerings which will be presented to her by her worshippers. Her handmaiden waits in the rotunda, strings of garlic and dried flowers at her feet, for the moment when Hecate is ready to descend to Lake Nemi and grace the worshippers with her presence

First of all, this is beautifully and seamlessly composed. Someday I hope to come close to your mastery. Secondly, I love the symbolism behind the image. Thirdly, Bougereau is my favorite artist. So, I completely adore this picture.
Tracy, thank so much for your wonderful comments you really make me feel on top of the world! My favourite artists are Bouguereau and Waterhouse, I’ve spent hours gazing at their paintings… I’m so pleased you like the way I’ve portrayed Bouguereau’s beautiful women…
